Black Diamond Kennel

INFORMATION

Our Maine Coon breeding program meticulously selects the perfect kings and queens with the desired traits. We import our cats from established European bloodlines to ensure the health and exquisite nature of our kittens. Our prime focus lies in breeding cats with prominent chests, chiseled bone structures, long tails, and exceptional temperaments. Our cats are registered with the International Cat Association (TICA) and the Federation Internationale Feline (FIFe). While FIFe certification is not available in the United States, our kittens are TICA Registered. As of 2024, our cattery is officially registered with the esteemed Cat Fanciers’ Association (CFA), and our kittens are recognized by both organizations. WHO WE ARE

Black Diamond Kennel (BDK) is a small family-owned Maine Coon cattery based in Las Vegas, NV, that was established by a passionate and ambitious couple from Southern California. BDK specializes in breeding purebred European champion bloodline Maine Coons, and we are dedicated to upholding the breed standard in the United States by importing kittens from responsible breeders overseas. Our lineage remains exclusive with no provision of breeding rights. Kings (Sire) and Queens (Dam) at BDK are imported from countries outside of the United States, where we seek to promote the breed standard by importing kittens from conscientious overseas breeders in an ongoing effort to enhance our bloodlines. Our Maine Coons are vital emotional support animals, serving to mitigate the effects of childhood trauma and traumatic experiences in our lives. This desire to share the joys, love and companionship we have experienced with our Maine Coons with others is both humbling and fulfilling. Our uncompromising focus on maintaining the health and longevity of our Maine Coons is demonstrated by the exceptional bloodlines we maintain, all whilst adhering to breed standards. Upon acquiring our first Maine Coon we soon discovered that the ‘wild’ or ‘exotic’ appearance we adored was becoming scarce. Among the many scams spawned from the popularity of MCOs, we observed breeders peddling Domestic Longhair cats for exorbitant prices without any form of testing, registration, or verification. As such, both the appearance and personality attributes of the MCO breed are being compromised. The personality of a Maine Coon, unlike any other domestic cat, is often described as dog-like, social, and occasionally clingy. If you have ever owned this breed, you will concur that “Everyone who likes cats, should have a Maine Coon at least once.”. Our passion for bringing the true beauty of this amazing breed to the United States informs everything we do. Once our kittens are rehomed with new families, our commitment to remain available and answer any queries is abiding. A private Facebook group for BDK family members provides an excellent platform for sharing updates on kitten growth and staying connected with other BDK members. Breeding, raising, and caring for healthy kittens, available for everyone who has ever dreamt of owning a Maine Coon, is our passion. We want to ensure that your new companion brings you daily laughter, love, and copious cuddles. Our relationships with our own MCOs continue to thrive and instigate long periods of staring and chuckling. We are delighted to extend that delightful privilege to you.

HEALTH CARE

HEALTH CARE PROTOCOL

At 16 weeks of age, our kittens are ready to go to their new homes. Our top priority is the health of our furry friends, so their journey to their furrever homes only begins after they receive all necessary vaccinations and deworming, including their rabies shot. Our exceptional vaccination protocol with Purevax includes a comprehensive protection plan against several common feline diseases, such as Panleukopenia, Rhinotracheitis, Calicivirus, Chlamydia, Leukemia, FIP, and Rabies. Starting at 8 weeks of age, our precious ones receive two additional vaccinations at 12 and 16 weeks old, ensuring that they have the optimal immunity possible. Additionally, we provide Drontal & Pyrantal deworming care to our kittens at 6, 8, and 12 weeks old, and perform a litter pool sample (PCR Test) at 12 weeks where their overall health is confirmed – giving our furry babies the best start in life! Neutering/spaying takes place at 16 weeks old, which has no effect on growth or metabolic rates in cats, contrary to previous beliefs, making sure our kittens can live their happiest and healthiest lives. All surgical procedures and anesthetic administration are safe for young animals, resulting in low morbidity and quicker recovery times. Following a brief healing period, our little furballs are released into their new homes to live the life they deserve! Throughout the process, we make sure to take care of our Kings and Queens too – they are subject to health testing for various conditions, such as HCM, SMA, PKDef, FXI, as well as genetic defects known to affect Maine Coon cats. HCM, a prevalent heart condition in felines, results from defective heart muscle cells that decrease heart function over time. While SMA causes a loss of spinal cord neurons that control limb muscles, leading to muscle weakness, instability, and posture abnormalities. PKDef is a form of anemia that causes red blood cells to be short-lived, resulting in weakness and weight loss. Similarly, any FXI alteration affects blood coagulation, leading to minor bleeding concerns. Fortunately, we provide a 5-year health guarantee for any genetic issues, and offer Trupanion insurance for the first month after bringing home a kitten. We are always here for you, whether you have queries, concerns, or need friendly advice – we are committed to safeguarding your kitten’s long and healthy life, with BDK always available for any support!

MORE QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

WHAT DOES BDK LOOK FOR IN THEIR FURREVER HOMES?

We strive for our main goal: a loving environment. Affection is crucial to our feline companions as they display great warmth and expressiveness. It is only fair to reciprocate such goodwill, with communicative and responsive environments being of utmost importance to us. We aim to build life-long relationships for our felines and require assurance of your commitment towards this goal. The overall health, longevity, and happiness of our felines are intricately linked to stability. Therefore, the commitment towards frequent veterinary visits, follow-ups, and consistent care routines is indispensable. We prioritize strong family foundations and shared priorities and are uninterested in individuals who need to persuade their counterparts to adopt our felines. Once our felines are taken in, they become an integral part of your family and an extension of ours. Thus, it is crucial that everyone involved is enthusiastic about this decision. Our BDK kittens are receptive to a wealth of love, and it is vital to ensure that they are always treated with the same amount of compassion. Safety is our top priority and cultivating a profound bond with empathy enables us to educate and overcome any potential hazards. We strive for furrever homes, and individuals who wholeheartedly commit to this idea are the ideal choice for our MCO.

WHERE DOES BDK DELIVER?

We provide local door-to-door delivery services or arrange a meeting point. Alternatively, you are welcome to travel to Harry-Reid International Airport and return with your feline companion. Our local delivery services are currently limited to Southern California, Arizona, Nevada, & Utah. In case you are located outside our delivery range, we offer the assistance of a flight nanny, who will provide updates and photos throughout the journey while accompanying your kitten in the cabin. Please contact us for more information regarding our domestic and international in cabin shipping options with a flight nanny.

CAN I GET MY BDK KITTEN TO COME HOME UNFIXED?

At our cattery, we ensure that our adorable kittens receive the best care possible. We believe in providing them with a safe and healthy environment as they grow and thrive. When our kittens reach 16 weeks of age, we schedule them for the necessary neutering/spaying procedures. We are committed to producing top-quality pedigree cats with champion bloodlines, and as such, we do not offer any breeding privileges.

DOES BDK ALLOW VISITORS?

Breeding cats present numerous hazards when allowing outsiders into the home, which is why precautions must be taken to safeguard the litter’s health. Stress from visitors can have a significant impact on a pregnant queen and their offspring, potentially causing fatal consequences. The presence of outside elements such as clothing, shoes, and parasites like fleas, ticks, and mites can also be a source of concern for the health of the kittens and newborns. To maintain a guarantee of kitten health, extensive precautions must be taken to prevent contamination. Therefore, we do not allow visitors to our home at this time, but we are actively developing Black Diamond Ranch and plan to open up our home while still ensuring a safe and secure environment for all.

WHAT ARE THE TEMPERAMENTS OF BDK KITTENS?

The temperaments of the Maine Coon kittens we breed display significant individual variability and development. Our nurturing and socialization fosters a friendly and welcoming temperament in them, often extending to visitors to your home. We have observed these kittens to demonstrate high sociability and a proclivity for following people from room to room. The Maine Coons’ affectionate personality traits promise to enrich your life with countless memories. These kittens also exhibit boldness and some level of impulsivity. Our kittens are reared alongside canines from an early age, thereby enabling effective desensitization and socialization. Regardless, all our cats are exceptionally loving and have a superseding instinct to show affection. Our commitment to these kittens and their development is unwavering, and we take great pride in ensuring they are ready to become a loving and cherished member of your family.

WHAT VITAMINS ARE RECOMMENDED FOR MY BDK KITTEN?

In order to ensure that our beloved Maine Coons have optimal health and a strong immune system, we carefully administer a variety of supplements. These include Immuno-5, which boosts immunity, Omega 3, which promotes healthy skin and coat, Liqui-Tinic Vitamin B and Iron Supplement, for increased energy and overall wellness, and Fortiflora Probiotics or Proviable Pre & Probiotics, which support digestive health. Of course, it’s always important to consult with a veterinarian before making any changes to your pet’s diet or supplement regimen. Their expert advice can help ensure that your furry friend stays healthy and happy for years to come.

ARE BDK KITTENS GOOD WITH CHILDREN, DOGS, OTHER CATS & OTHER ANIMALS?

Our feline socialization process involves thorough desensitization to optimize adaptability in new homes, surroundings, and families. Many of our kittens integrate effortlessly into households with large dogs, thanks to early exposure to our own canines. Additionally, some of our kittens cuddle and play with their guinea pig siblings. Our kittens receive abundant handling to guarantee a pleasant disposition with children and visitors. Our understanding of the crucial role temperament plays in Maine Coons prompts us to evaluate potential owners’ homes and customize attention to each kitten accordingly. We take great pride in our comprehensive socialization approach, which ensures that our Maine Coon kittens are not only gorgeous, but also well-adjusted and happy in their new homes. With our expertise in feline behavior and our hands-on approach to kitten socialization, we are confident that our kittens will make wonderful additions to any family.

WHAT DOES A BDK KITTENS' DIET CONSIST OF?

Our feline companions are given nourishing meals made with Farmina N&D Dry, and Royal Canin Mother & Baby Cat Dry and Wet Food. We prioritize feeding them minimally processed, high protein, and top-quality nutrition, which is why our diet excludes chicken and pork. Providing our furballs with the best possible nutrition is our top priority.

DOES BDK HAVE A LIST FOR SPECIAL NEEDS OR RETIRED CAT HOMES?

We acknowledge that there are circumstances beyond our control. On occasion, we encounter Maine Coon with needs that demand an even more specialized environment than the magnificent habitats for our kittens/cats that our typical furrever home is fortunate enough to provide. Certain cats may require a unique lifestyle or living arrangements, and it is our commitment to guarantee that every cat that comes through our breeding program is given the absolute best life possible. The well-being of our Maine Coons is our top priority, and we aim to deliver unparalleled care to all of our cats. Although we would love to retain each and every Maine Coon that we encounter, we concede that there are superior habitats for them elsewhere. Consequently, our screening process for these habitats may necessitate more scrutiny to assure an ideal match for the situation. If you believe that you are genuinely qualified for this duty, we encourage you to learn more and submit an inquiry. Please keep in mind that we are only considering serious requests.
